About the World of Veilfall
At the time of Veilfall, nineteen societies flourished.
Eight collapsed in the ecological disaster that followed a piece of the heavens shattering, throwing chunks of space at the surface in a hail of enormous heft to crush into the ground.
Two were consumed by an alarming new danger: the Creep, an apparently natural phenomenon that looks like mist made of shadow and crawls across the land and sea as hungry as any predator, full of nameless things cobbled together of teeth and claws.
Five survived by building towers up into the sky, above the encroaching Creep.
One assembled an impossibly large ark and took to the waves in a cityship.
One built down, under the Creep, deep underground, a vast labyrinth of neighborhoods, facilities, and storehouses.
One became nomadic, following the beams of light from beyond the Veils that cut through the darkness of the Creep, allowing safe travel and even frequent periods of rest.
And one disappeared.
